Frequently Asked Questions
-
I primarily work with students from elementary school through high school. However, I also welcome and have experience working with college students and adults.
Services are individualized based on each person’s developmental level, learning profile, and goals rather than age alone.
-
I specialize in foundational language development, literacy, executive functioning, and higher-order reasoning. Areas of support may include vocabulary, sentence structure, decoding and encoding, reading comprehension, written and verbal expression, social communication, making inferences, organization, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.
I do not provide treatment for speech sound production or feeding. If another provider or service would be better aligned with your child’s needs, I will help guide you toward an appropriate referral.

Telepractice may be a good fit for students who can engage with a clinician through a screen and participate with appropriate support. Sessions are interactive and individualized, and may incorporate shared documents, visual supports, games, books, videos, and other digital materials.
During our consultation, we will discuss your child’s attention, communication, technology needs, and level of independence to determine whether virtual therapy is an appropriate fit.
-
We’ll begin with a complimentary 15-minute consultation to discuss your child’s needs and review any recent testing, such as a neuropsychological or speech-language evaluation. Depending on the type, scope, and recency of that testing, your child may be able to begin therapy without a comprehensive evaluation.
At minimum, all new clients complete a language sample to help guide treatment planning. This is billed as 30 minutes at the evaluation rate. If additional assessment is needed, we’ll discuss the recommended next steps and cost before scheduling.

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Each session is tailored to your child’s goals, interests, and learning style and includes explicit skill and strategy instruction followed by guided practice. Game and mindfulness breaks are incorporated as needed to support attention, regulation, and engagement.
Students initially learn and practice new skills using structured therapy materials. This foundational stage may last several months. Once a student understands the strategies and can use them with increasing independence, we begin applying them to relevant schoolwork to support carryover. I do not typically assign additional homework, but students may bring assignments into sessions once they have reached this stage of treatment.
My goal is for students to understand what they are working on, why the skill matters, and how to apply it beyond the therapy session.
-
I collect data during every session and monitor progress throughout therapy. Families receive regular updates about the skills and strategies addressed, areas of growth, and ways to support carryover outside of sessions.
Written progress summaries are provided and discussed with families two to four times per year, depending on the frequency and total number of sessions. Goals and treatment approaches are adjusted over time based on your child’s progress and changing needs.
-
Students generally participate in sessions independently. Developing higher-level language and executive functioning skills requires opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, and take learning risks without immediate support from a parent. Students may also engage differently when a parent is actively participating, which can affect their focus, independence, and connection with a clinician.
Given the nature of telepractice, parents are, of course, welcome to remain in the same room. However, I ask that they allow their child to participate independently. If you would like to sit in on a session, we can schedule a time for you to do so.
Even though parents do not regularly attend sessions, I will keep you informed about what we are working on and how you can support your child’s progress.
-
The frequency and duration of therapy depend on your child’s needs, goals, availability, and response to treatment. Most students attend therapy once or twice per week.
While every student’s timeline is different, I typically work with students for two to three years when they attend at least 80% of their scheduled weekly sessions. Progress is reviewed regularly, and recommendations are adjusted as students meet their goals and develop greater independence.

Therapy Rates:
$180 per 50 minute session

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of service. Upon request, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Because coverage varies by plan, I recommend contacting your insurer directly to ask about out-of-network speech-language therapy benefits.
-
Yes. Because I am licensed in Illinois, your child must be physically located in Illinois at the time of each telepractice session. Sessions cannot take place while your child is visiting or traveling outside Illinois.
